The third of June 2020

black lives matter

I purposefully did not post a goat yesterday, nor will I be posting a goat today.

I support Black Lives Matter.

Goat of the Day was started as a means to bring a light-hearted distraction to constant streams of negative headlines. It was a way for me to distract myself, and hopefully others, from things out of our control and focus on positive things.

However with the escalating situation in the United States, and in solidarity with Black Out Tuesday, I felt it would be best to not let us be distracted. This is a time to pay attention. This is a time to listen to those who are in pain -and have been systematically oppressed for centuries- people of colour

I will resume Goat of the Day soon, but for now I urge you to really think about what the world is going to look like in the future and if it can really continue the way it was going with deeply entrenched systematic racism in a country that claims to be the authority on freedom.

Today is the first day of Pride Month, thirty days dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. June also commemorates the Stonewall Riots, which took place on June 28, 1969. Tired of constant brutality and oppression from the police, people began fighting back after a raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. Three nights of resistance and unrest ensued as people fought for the right to be treated equally under the law and to live free.

We have a long road ahead of us in creating a better society, but I urge all of you to consider and realise that there is more that unites us as humans – as people – than what divides us. When there is no justice for a segment of us, then there is no justice for any of us.

I found this image on Twitter, and do not know its origins or original photographer. If you do, please let me know so I can credit them accordingly.
