Practice compassion – real, radical compassion every day at every opportunity. It will feed your soul and make the world around you a better place.
True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
You never know what is around the corner. Will tomorrow be just another Monday or the start of something wonderful?
I would like to extend a huge thank you to JohnieSue, the owner and head of The Haven Zoo for letting me participate in her latest fundraiser to build a new goat barn. I especially appreciate her sending me photographs of our pals there, like Jim peeking out from behind a tree.
I am very happy to report that The Haven Zoo has raised half the money to replace the shelter for the goats and llamas, including a number of generous sponsorships. A massive thank you and well-done if you have donated or sponsored an animal. If you have yet to make a donation to help, don’t worry, there is still time! With the generous funds, The Haven has purchased recycled tin for the roof of the new shelter.
Have you ever noticed those who have that certain swagger? Individuals who are so confident, they seem to glide through life? Check out Freddie and Hutton, two fantastic llamas from the Haven Zoo. Confidence is key, Hutton has classic symmetrical banana-shaped llama ears while Freddie, well who could say no to that grin? Embrace who you are and own it, live your truth and take on the world.
Seek out new opportunities, be ambitious and think big. You are capable of amazing things.
This week, challenge yourself to focus entirely on the present moment. Don’t lament the past, or worry about the future. Just live each day, each moment, completely in the now.
Make sure to take some time this weekend doing things you love with the ones you love.
Although I often urge people to be kind, there are some unfortunate occasions where you simply cannot be responsible for someone else’s feelings. Be kind, but also remember that the only emotions you are responsible for are your own.
Be fearlessly and authentically you. Define your core values and remain true to those no matter what.
If you have read the news over the first week of the new decade, you may be feeling overwhelmed and potentially isolated. The headlines are dramatic and somewhat bleak; however, take hope. One of the reasons our species evolved to build cathedrals, send humans to the moon and eradicate deadly diseases is we came together to solve problems and create amazing things. Truly evolved humans don’t go it alone – if we act now we can make a better world for each other and the future.
Sometimes the road may seem difficult, but eventually once you arrive at your destination, the journey will be well worth it. Plus the best adventure stories never come from easy paths.
