February in the northern hemisphere can be quite grey, chilly and blustery. Don’t fear though, behind the wind, rain, snow and clouds the sun is still there. Need proof? The herd from the Haven Zoo enjoyed some lovely sunshine this afternoon. Soon enough, the sun will be back in your corner of the world.
Death, taxes, and laundry come for us all. Rather than spending our lives anxious and afraid to what might happen, perhaps consider just not worrying about it. If you live your life afraid of what might happen, then you will miss out on amazing and wonderful experiences, making meaningful connections with other and living a fulfilling life.
Don’t worry, Mondays aren’t so bad. After a relaxing weekend getting back to the grind can be tough, but the sooner you hit that weekly to-do list the sooner the next weekend will come. For today’s goat, The Haven Zoo sent over a little video of Angela voicing her opinions and grumpy mood.
I am really happy and excited to share some wonderful news! Our friends at The Haven Zoo have completed construction of the new goat barn! The herd is now safe and sound and happy to be living in their lovely new abode. Another huge thank you to anyone who donated or sponsored a member of the Haven’s menagerie.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to JohnieSue, the owner and head of The Haven Zoo for letting me participate in her latest fundraiser to build a new goat barn. I especially appreciate her sending me photographs of our pals there, like Jim peeking out from behind a tree.
Today, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. First, it is Friday and that is always fantastic. Second, fundraising efforts to rebuild the shelter for the motley herd at The Haven Zoo has so-far been very successful! We are nearly to our goal of raising $700 USD. Today, wood has been delivered to the Haven that will be used to make the new shelter.
So, as it is a fantastic Friday for a fantastic fundraiser, I am asking on behalf of The Haven Zoo for donations of just five dollars (USD). Just a fiver for Friday will go a long way to making sure our pals at the Haven have a shelter to protect from the elements. Who else is feeling fantastic? Why the lovely Brownie of course, who is so happy, grateful and looking forward to her new shelter. Every donation is greatly appreciated, and you can still sponsor members of the herd like Brownie to help maintain their new shelter and make sure that they have regular veterinarian check-ups and delicious, nutritious foods. They have started an EMERGENCY FUNDRAISER
Their covered area for goats, llamas, and donkey was heavily damaged during a storm and they need a new roof structure as soon as possible. A generous supporter has offered to cover half of the expenses for the structure; however, they still need 700 USD.

I usually like to post about hero goats who have been valiantly eating underbrush and growth to prevent wildfires. The science is clear that the increase in prevalence and intensity of wildfires in the western United States and in Australia are caused by the climate crisis and general warming of the planet. However, the climate crisis effects different regions in different ways. For example, over the summer the southeastern United States suffered a terrible drought. What does this have to do with goats? Our friend Otis from The Haven Zoo has been dealing with a zinc deficiency due to over-dried, nutrient lacking hay caused by the drought. For Otis, this means that he has lost some of his hair and has to see a veterinarian regularly to care for his skin. Sometimes it’s easy to think that the climate crisis only effects far away corners of the planet, but the same mechanisms that are causing the horrific wildfires are causing problems everywhere. I still believe that with the right collective energy, humanity and its animal friends can mitigate some of the worst effects. Small changes to your lifestyle can make a big impact, as well as supporting policy-makers committed to a greener future.
Although this is a festive time of year it is absolutely ok to not feel festive. Sometimes the holidays can dredge up all sorts of things. Make sure to take time for self care and to allow yourself to feel what you need to feel.
