May the fourth be with you! Do you like puns? Do you like Star Wars? Well then today is your day. Once upon a time, my mom brought home the entire trilogy (episodes IV-VI) and we watched it over an entire weekend. I was eight years old and already well on my way to becoming a misunderstood nerd, so Star Wars was the perfect indulgence. Although truth be told, I found the prequels to be very disappointing. Luckily, the Star Wars movies that have come out in the past few years have captured and built upon the original magic. To celebrate May the Fourth, here is a photograph of Adam Driver who you may recognise as Kyle Ren/Ben Solo and a caprine friend (possibly a sheep).
Please note, this photograph was sent to me by a friend and I did not take it and do not know the original source.
Just a friendly reminder that you actually don’t have to learn a new skill or be mega-productive during lockdown. It is perfectly fine to ride it out your own way – if that means you learn a new language or discover a new law of science fantastic! If that means you watch a bunch of TikToks and take a lot of naps that’s fantastic too! The global situation is emotionally taxing for us all and we all have different ways of coping – and that is completely ok.
Goats are fantastic, but sometimes it is good to shake things up. Therefore, the next thirty-one days will feature a pig of the day, rather than a goat of the day. Don’t worry, we will soon return to the genus Capra but for one month will celebrate the genus Sus.
What sings to your soul? What always makes you smile? Whatever that is for you – make sure to enjoy it and practice it as much as possible. Beloved yoga teacher Tao Porchon-Lynch loved yoga and shared it with a global audience – and lived to be 101! Perhaps making sure your life includes doing what you love is another secret to longevity. Even if you don’t make it to 100, you’ll be fulfilled.
I am very happy to report that The Haven Zoo has raised half the money to replace the shelter for the goats and llamas, including a number of generous sponsorships. A massive thank you and well-done if you have donated or sponsored an animal. If you have yet to make a donation to help, don’t worry, there is still time! With the generous funds, The Haven has purchased recycled tin for the roof of the new shelter.
Have you ever noticed those who have that certain swagger? Individuals who are so confident, they seem to glide through life? Check out Freddie and Hutton, two fantastic llamas from the Haven Zoo. Confidence is key, Hutton has classic symmetrical banana-shaped llama ears while Freddie, well who could say no to that grin? Embrace who you are and own it, live your truth and take on the world.
The week threshold between one year and the next can be quite difficult sometimes. With schedules in flux and lingering between holidays, it is challenging to stave off boredom and anxieties about things to come. You might even find yourself longing for your routine! Fear not, the liminal transition will come to an end soon and an amazing new year will begin.
