Sometimes staying inside with the same people can be really challenging. Make sure to find ways to get some time to yourself, especially if you are responsible for caring for others. It is not selfish – you able to better care for those who need it when you are coming from a stable foundation yourself.
If you find it hard to stay positive take a moment and think of something in your life that brings you joy – whether that is your hour of sunshine, your family, or binge watching junk television. Always keep an eye out for silver linings even in the most difficult of times.
Pigs have feelings too! Perhaps after a few weeks of March of Pigs you may have noticed that pigs are actually quite expressive. That’s because they feel a wide range of emotions, just like humans. Pigs can feel joy and happiness as well as suffer from negative emotions like sadness and grief. Pigs are not only emotional creatures, but have been observed to show compassion for others, and feel distress at seeing their animal and human friends suffering. They have distinctive personalities, some are shy and some are gregarious just like us. In addition to having excellent memories, it is very likely that pigs have complex feelings and thoughts, and are even able to understand symbolic languages similar to higher primates and dolphins. Amazing!
Today is the first new moon of the decade. A new moon is kind of an opposite of a full moon, so sometimes it may appear as though there is no moon on the evening of a new moon. It is considered the first lunar phase, and is the point in which the moon and the sun are closest in ecliptic longitude, but not so close that it causes a solar eclipse. In astrology, which of course is not scientific but can be fun anyways, this new moon rises in the sign of Aquarius – a zodiac sign and constellation that represents (amongst other things) rebellion. New moons typically represent fresh starts, and due to the unique position astrologically of this new moon maybe it will inspire you to unleash your inner rebel and take up an awesome cause. As we can all see from the headlines, perhaps the world is in need of some collective, rebellious and revolutionary energy.
Be fearlessly and authentically you. Define your core values and remain true to those no matter what.
As our inboxes fill with ideas about how to improve ourselves for the upcoming new decade, perhaps consider (in contrast to the last post) that you are enough just as you are. Perhaps this is the year where you don’t need to make a resolution or revamp your life. Perhaps this is the year where you celebrate you – just as you are – and trust that you have everything you need already. You are enough.
The week threshold between one year and the next can be quite difficult sometimes. With schedules in flux and lingering between holidays, it is challenging to stave off boredom and anxieties about things to come. You might even find yourself longing for your routine! Fear not, the liminal transition will come to an end soon and an amazing new year will begin.
Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. In fact, if you live above the Arctic Circle, there will be an entire twenty four hour period of endless night! For some spiritual beliefs, today marks the beginning of the Yule, and in some ancient traditions the solstice represents the birth of the sun from the Moon goddess. Perhaps many of these traditions were absorbed by later Christian groups that invaded Northern Europe. For many, this is day is a wonderful day to turn your attention inward, take stock of things, let go of what no longer serves you and prepare for the transformation to the new year. If you are reading from the northern hemisphere, don’t worry, beginning tomorrow there will be a few more moments of sunlight everyday for about six months.
Always keep your chin up and your eyes open. A positive attitude and a keen sense of observation will ensure that you never miss out on anything important.
If you are ever feeling overwhelmed just give yourself a gentle reminder that you are enough just as you are.
