Meet Angela from The Haven Zoo. Angela was also named after a character from the US comedy The Officethe on-again-off-again romantic partner of Dwight (not to be confused with Dwight the goat from yesterday). The character Angela Noelle Martin was head of accounting, former head of the Party Planning Committee and safety officer at Dunder Mifflin. She loves cats, performance reviews, and ultimately, Dwight. Check out how to support Angela and all the other amazing animals at The Haven!

Incase you missed it, yesterday’s goat from The Haven Zoo was named after the character Jim from the US version of the comedy program The Office. Continuing on that theme, today’s goat is named after Dwight Kurt Schrute III, who was often the target of Jim’s pranks. In addition to being pranked repeatedly by Jim, Dwight also served as the “Assistant to the Regional Manager” role as part of his duties as a paper salesperson, health and safety enthusiast, volunteer sheriff’s deputy, and managed his family’s beet farm. Beets are nutrient dense, a great addition to salads, and actually in season right now! Perhaps consider trying out a new beet recipe, supporting the Haven Zoo, and then having a mini-binge of some hilarious Office episodes?

I bet Dwight the Goat enjoys beets as well.

What’s in a name? Today’s goat of the day from The Haven Zoo is named Jim, after the fictional character James “Jim” Halpert from the US comedy program The Office. The character Jim was known for playing loads of pranks on his boss, Michael and his co-worker, Dwight. Thus, Jim is a perfect namesake for a goat, as mischief is a big part of the whole goat experience. I hope that you all were able to enjoy some mischief this weekend and that you can find joy, even if you have to work a mundane job in a paper factory. Check out how you can support Jim and his friends at The Haven Zoo!

“…From time to time, I send Dwight faxes… from himself… from the future” – Jim Halpert describing his interactions with his co-worker, Dwight.

Say hello to Vlad, the goat of the day. Vlad has the largest horns of all of the goats at The Haven Zoo. He was named by some of the Haven’s most dedicated supporters Eric & Lori Dessecker. The name Vlad was inspired from the fifteenth century prince of Wallachia (now part of modern Romania), Vlad the III, or sometimes known as Vlad the Impaler. Vlad’s dad was part of the “order of the dragon” which gave them the surname of Dracul.  Vlad III was not a very nice guy, and earned the nickname “Impaler” because he actually impaled his enemies and criminals in public. Centuries later, reading up on some history caught the attention of Bram Stoker who based the title character of his classic Draculawhich has arguably been the inspiration for countless other literary and cinematic adventures featuring spooky bloodthirsty vampires. Fortunately for his friends at the Haven, Vlad the goat is most certainly not a vampire, evidenced by his presence in broad daylight in the photo below.

Sometimes in our fast paced world, it can be hard to allow yourself to relax. Finding a place of calm, let alone maintaining a general state of calm can be really difficult between all of our many deadlines and obligations. That is why, today I am inspired by Freddie the Llama from The Haven Zoo. Freddie is not a goat, but is today’s honorary goat of the day for his totally chill attitude and cool demeanor. Whether he is enjoying some sunshine or hanging with his caprine friends, this camelid knows how to go with the flow.

Today is one of my favorite days of the entire year – the Vernal Equinox, when the sun stands over the equator and the night and day are equal in length. Most importantly, due to the location of the sun, this marks the beginning of spring and the end of winter. From this day onward, there will be more sunlight than night until the sunlight begins to descend back southward at the beginning of summer in late June. I hope that wherever you are, you enjoyed some sunshine today.

Today, I am introducing a friend of the goats from The Haven Zoo, a donkey named Rocky. Goats are not often discriminatory of the friends they chose on the basis of species, as goats have notably been friends with tigers, dogs, giraffes, cats and horses. In addition to being friends, donkeys are often kept on farms to protect smaller animals from predators like coyotes and wild dogs. Check out how to support Rocky and his friends at the Haven!

Today’s goat of the day today was named by one of The Haven Zoo‘s most dedicated supporters, Dr. Cassandra White, a medical anthropologist who inspires many students to think critically about the world we live in. When Dr. White is not in the classroom enlightening students, she has ongoing field work in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil researching Hansen’s Disease (leprosy). She has named today’s goat Bernie! Find out more how you can support Bernie and The Haven Zoo!

Do you ever have one of those days where your look just comes together? Sometimes, when your look is super on point it exudes a certain confidence and self-assuredness to the world – it can be an awesome feeling! Of course, having a good hair day is great and the perfect Outfit Of The Day can gather many approvals on Instagram, but it’s all the stuff on the inside that brings it together and lets it shine! Today’s goat of the day is Elvis, from The Haven Zoo, a confident fellow whose look is always on point. Is it because of his awesome horns or carefully coordinated white and black coat? Or, is it because Elvis knows he’s awesome? Don’t forget to check out how to support The Haven!

There are those of us who have the ability to totally go with the flow. Meet Brownie, another caprine friend from The Haven Zoo. Brownie is known for being super chill and getting along with everyone, humans, animals, and even our shy, special goat of the day from yesterday, Cece. Sometimes, the best thing to do in life is just to accept where you are, in the now and be grateful for what’s around. Things aren’t so bad, and you might realize that your now is actually your sanctuary. Please check out The Haven and consider their opportunities to volunteer and support!
