Sundays are a wonderful time for a nice big meal. In the UK, many people enjoy a Sunday roast that features a carefully roasted meat or nut entree accompanied by a variety of delicious sides featuring potatoes, root vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Wherever you may be in the world while you are reading this, I hope you have a delicious meal to look forward to that fuels your body and mind for the upcoming week.

goatsI have always been a fan of Thursdays. It is the day day before Friday, and the work week is officially almost done. Thursday was named for the Norse god Thor, and at some point in the distant past it was known as Thor’s Day. Thor was known for wielding a giant hammer and riding a chariot that was drawn by two goats, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr. These goats were pretty badass, and pulled Thor’s thunder chariot on his many adventures and epics. You may not have met many goats that you would associate with heroic behavior, but I think inside even the most adorable caprine lies the spirit of a badass goat pulling a thunder chariot triumphantly towards the weekend!

goatsOur lives are full of competition, to the point where sometimes it feels like you simply can’t get away from it. When you lay the groundwork, put in the hours and do your best and you come in second, sometimes that can sting quite a bit. However, do not despair if you come in second, third, or even sixty-fourth in the competition. It may not feel like it in the moment, but the work you put in does count and eventually will lead to wonderful things, just maybe not in snagging the coveted first spot. Today’s entry is dedicated to Hugo, who valiantly represented Cambridge at the Oxford Cambridge Goat Race this past Sunday, and came in second. Maybe your year will be 2020, Hugo, or maybe your victory has yet to manifest, but either way, you were smashing and should be proud.

goatsThere is always that one person that holds everything together. That person is not necessarily the captain or the manager, but without that person, everything would simply fall apart. That person is reliable, helpful, and really brings the workplace, or home, or animal sanctuary together. Sometimes, that person might be a special goat to complete the herd. With that in mind, I am pleased to introduce you to Pam from The Haven Zoo. Pam really completes the herd at the Haven, much like how a certain character from The Office kept the shift afloat and everyone going. Pamela “Pam” Morgan Beesly (later Halpert)’s official role when the series began was that of receptionist, but really without her the office would have completely fallen apart. If there is someone like that in your life, take some time to let them know they are appreciated. And also, check out how to support The Haven Zoo.

goatsFeminism is the belief in the social, economic and political advocacy of women in terms of the equal treatment of all people along the basis of sex and gender. A lot of places on the internet might tell you that feminists are all terrible man-haters hell bent on destroying society, but that simply isn’t the case. Feminism seeks to create a world that is more fair, where people are not constrained to certain activities or roles on the basis of their sex and gender identity. If you are reading this, you have probably in some way benefited from the ideals of feminism – even if you are male! Today is International Women’s Day, which aims to celebrate the accomplishments of women while creating a more equal world for women, but really, I think we could all use some feminism in our lives everyday.
